Persian Ney

The Persian Ney is a traditional end-blown reed flute with origins that date back thousands of years. Historical and archaeological evidence, supported by collections from institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The British Museum, shows that similar reed flutes were used in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and in the civilization of ancient Persia, known today as Iran. These findings confirm the ney as one of the oldest continuous wind instruments in the region, with a long presence in Iranian cultural history.
